Well, of course it is, but...
the recruiter said today that she will handle all the discussions vis-a-vis the offer. I shouldn't worry about it. Hmmm.
I shared with her all my concerns about being on the up-and-up with the N.E. company, so that they would understand any reason for a delay in answering them, and expressed again that I felt weird about accepting and then potentially backing out. She has the same concerns, but insisted she will manage the conversation with them and take responsibility for the result. OK...
The guy I had lunch with unexpectedly yesterday talked with the recruiter today and it looks like the job is NOT mine to have, but he will interview others. I probably will not get to talk to anyone else there until the week of 12/19. And so far, no feedback yet from the other two interviews Monday and Tuesday. So, what's firm over there? Nothing!
No reaction to my counter-offer, either (not much of a counter... may I have more vacation? Parking? More temp. living expense?)
So, we wait some more. And wonder what's next.

Hi Bob. How’s it going? I have a few thoughts / questions for you.
1. Finances: Where are you at? Can you keep looking for work for 6 more months and not kill yourself financially – i.e. do not cash in IRAs. The savings may dwindle or home equity decline – but scaling back and living with unemployment and having Deb work – can you make due?
2. Stresses: Is it harder for you and Deb to live on a lower budget / cut back and live with the job uncertainty or take the job in NE and have the moving stress and leaving friends and family disappointments? Some people handle uncertainty better then others. Can you go 6 more months? NE may be the ticket to stability if that’s crucial for both of you.
3. Sounds like no one wants to go to NE. So if you can get by financially and can deal with the uncertainty, then turn down NE. Make sure you and Deb are very open and honest and communicate very well. Deb may rather stay and have you work a less paying job and even work herself.
4. You are a hot commodity! You have had a bunch of interviews which I deem as success in the job hunt world. Does the recruiter feel you can get a job in your area and decline NE?
5. If you accept NE then don't look back. Accept NE and stay there at least a year even if other offers from “home” appear.
6. Tell the companies west of you that you have a firm offer and need some info from them such as salary (is it worth waiting – can you live on that low salary, etc) Tell NE to wait, i.e. perhaps the recruiter can delay them, Christmas holiday, etc…or still thinking about the benefits package.
7. Be realistic – how often will you see Jenny and Jeff or whoever they are. Jenny at holidays? Jeff the summer and holidays? You can easily fly them out to NE a bunch especially with that signing bonus. Or are there other family and friends to consider?
8. Finally – Pray like crazy for God’s ways are higher then ours and the Kings hands are like streams of water in the hands of the Lord. He is in control. Trust, trust, trust.
