Yup, I think that's right. The internet lowers your inhibitions, and facilitates your desired behavior, be it social or anti-social.
And now, if you're social (and 'fringe' as well) you can not only connect with others, you can do a group mind meld, via Twitter. Check it:

After all, psychics already have half a dozen Facebook groups. (seriously. search it.) It only makes sense to extend their reach into the near-real-time of the Twittersphere.
But, um... they shouldn't need the web, right? Aren't they... psychic?
