In The Waiting Room of Life

"... much of life is spent waiting.

Waiting for a response to a book proposal.
Waiting to hear from a potential employer.
Waiting for a medical diagnosis.
Waiting to meet your spouse.
Waiting for a letter from your top choice for college."

So this article begins:

I have a prospect-rich but cash-poor daughter waiting for her first paycheck from a new employer, a son waiting to hear if his employer will give him full-time status with benefits, a niece (or two!) waiting to hear about the next stage of her life, be it acceptance to grad school or a new job.  Being aware of these things lately put me in mind of the waiting process I went through a little over a year ago while trying to land a new job.  You make contacts, have discussions, weeks go by, more discussions, more waiting, perhaps some unhappy answers, more contacts, more waiting.

Must.  Not.  Panic!

Waiting humbles you, reminds you that you are not in control of everything.  Waiting also gives you space to re-evaluate your priorities and values, to be sure you are waiting for the right things.  Waiting forces you to consider a longer view of life.  Waiting also makes you sympathetic to others who wait.

Nobody likes waiting... but it's not ALL bad.
